Monster Mildura win for Kiaola

Jun 22, 2015

There are few better ways to indicate a horse has returned to top form than a 6-½ length win.

Kialoa showed he was back to his best when he produced such a performance in the Betfair Murray Mallee Winter Stayers Heat (1800m) at Mildura.

Kialoa’s last win was back on his home track Warrnambool in February but the gelding had race fairly well since.

However, Kiaola was always working up to a win, judging by his third on the Geelong Synthetic track on June 12.

Dean Yendall was aboard Kiaola at Geelong and travelled to Mildura to ride the son of Fastnet Rock in his 1800m Benchmark 64 assignment.

Yendall parked Kiaola midfield, one off the fence, for the first half of the race before the eight-year-old began to improve steadily between horses from the 800m.

Kiaola improved to join the leaders on the turn before going right on with the job in the straight as he continued to widen the margin on his rivals in the last 200m.

Kiaola notched his eighth win from 48 starts when he trounced his rivals while the $9000 winner’s cheque took his stakes tally to more than $110,000.

Congratulations to Kiaola’s great team of owners and all involved in his sensational Mildura win.
